A new start…

Alright I have been away from the scene for a while. If you haven’t checked it out yet, follow the group on Facebook called 86 HATE . Things are getting started and slowly coming together.

My goal of all of this is to shine a light on how much bullying and hate impacts someone. I have mentioned before I have been a bullied most of my life. I also have been discriminated against. I want to share with others, even if the days get dark, be kind and push on! Stay tuned, I am slowly getting things going! I choose to defy the odds. Not become a statistic.

Don’t judge a book by its cover…

I think a lot of people know when you assume – you only make an ass out of you and me. I also think everyone at some time has judged a person by what they see, or assume the stories which they don’t know. The honest truth is you can’t, you don’t know what someone is dealing or struggling with or who they are by the outside.

I hear stories on the news of young people or someone in the LGBT community or a child or student that takes their life because they cannot take the bullying any longer. I don’t get it, why is no one having these peoples back. Its not like bullying isn’t seen its just ignored, which makes it worse.

I try my best to be a good person. Its really hard to be a good person 100% of the time. But if we as a society try, try a little hard, and put one foot in front of the other we can make the world a better place.

I haven’t really put my personal story out there yet. I am happy to hear yours. Mine is coming. Just don’t judge the cover…

Happy Valentine’s Day

Hope everyone had a good weekend and great Valentine’s Day. I am going to keep this blog short and simple. This weekend I spent a lot of time at a local book store trying to find the right book to read. I found so many LGBT teen books, so many books about bullying and just so many good books. I figured Id throw out a couple that I plan on picking up. If you have any to add to the list please comment below…

I‘ll Give You The Sun – Jandy Nelson

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe – Benjamin Alire Saenz

Alice in Zombieland – Gena Showalter

The Beast Within: A Tale of Beauty’s Prince – Serena Valentino

It gets better…

I am all about good books. I tend to go for dark type books such as Go Ask Alice or The Burn Journals – however I have a couple books on my shelf that I am starting to read and hoping can update some of the things I learn here on the blog. I recently started reading It Gets Better – Coming out, overcoming bullying and creating a life worth living. Its basically a book of short stories – so if you aren’t a big reader – this is perfect,- its a collection of original essays and I find it hard to put down.

Since it is 2016, the chance of you knowing someone in the LGBT community is big. LGBT youth and young adults experience a lot of harassment, bullying and violence. It is said that 90% of LGBT youth hear negative comments regarding LGBT at school. 84% of LGBT youth report violence or harassment in the school environment. These statistics should be going down and it should be more accepting, however, there will always be people who are ignorant or looking down upon another.

A few great sites to check out about all this is :

Don’t back down

Did you know that 1 out of every 4 students reports being bullied during the school year? 64 % of children who are bullied do not report it. How are we going to stop these statistics from growing higher- how do we prevent ourselves from being bullied and others? Most children say they have been cyberbullied- however 90% say it happens offline.

What should we do if we are being bullied?

You may seem scared to let someone know, but by telling someone it will get you help and help you be less scared. If someone is physically bullying you and you feel like you are in danger you have to speak to someone trusted immediately like parents, an adult or counselor. Remember if you can’t go to someone in your family there is someone you can always go to outside of them whether it be school, church or coaches.

Sometimes the best thing to do when being bullied is to just walk away, or to yell STOP and walk away.
A few good comebacks that I have used are, “Do you feel better now?” or “Whatever!”

Please know there are many books to check in your library under self help to help you understand things more…

The places that you come to fear the most…

“Buried deep as you can dig inside yourself
And hidden in the public eye
Such a stellar monument to loneliness
Laced with brilliant smiles and shining eyes
Perfect make-up, but you’re barely scraping by
But you’re barely scraping by…”

Tonight while adding cream and sugar to my Starbucks grande coffee I was in ear shot of two young high school aged girls who were talking about life, how hard midterms are and what is happening with the school load they have right now. The one girl seemed a little down, hesitant to speak. Who am I to judge or assume though, here I am just trying to add my 9 sugar packets to my coffee. Then the girl confessed she is really concerned for a friend of her’s who spoke of suicide to her and how now her parents are involved because this friend said something. The girl, from what I gathered in my 2 minutes there was concerned that her friend was mad at her. It took everything in me not to be a creep and walk up to her and give her a hug and tell her, because of you, your friend is alive. However, I smiled and quickly walked out of Starbucks to my car. Suicide isn’t something to joke with, I haven’t been struck close with suicide however, in the media you see it more and more everyday from these celebrities who everyone think have it all.

When it comes to coping and being “happy” –  There isn’t a quick fix, although – coffee helps- I find that no matter the money, the trips, the cars, the people – you can’t make yourself happy until your mind is in the right frame. I have recently found some ways to get out of those dark “barely scraping by” moments. I have a few songs that legit make my mood from low to high, a few shows I love to turn to to get my mind off things or honestly – I draw. This works for me, not saying it will work for everyone. Just some ideas – you have to find what works for you. What makes your stress level go down and your mind free – give a few things a try – maybe its yoga, reading, or photography – you won’t know until you try!

This idea sprang on me like every other neurotic thought that I have. I can’t type as fast as the words come to me so I will start here with who I am and what I hope to achieve through this site.

Im Erin, I have been bullied my entire life, even up until now. I know people say it gets better and I am a firm believer of that. I have had my good and bad experiences and somehow I am still here. I feel like my calling is to shed light onto bullying, how it can impact you, how you can learn to overcome it and hopefully see the light at the end of the tunnel- even if it follows you. My goal is the 86 those bullies and move on with life in the most positive way possible. If one person reads this blog and it helps them, then I accomplished something. If no one reads it, well so be it.

This page is going to be stories, photographs, and just information I hope you like! Stay tuned for this can only get better then this blog. I promise!
